Make extra money online and create a passive income at the same time with your digital camera. Take pictures and upload them for free to sites such as istockphoto.com. Everyday bloggers and writers are searching online for the right picture to go with their latest blog entry.  Whenever one of your photos is used, you earn money. Uploading even one picture can provide you with passive income as you make money every time it is sold.

There are many sites providing stock photos, and you will need to review each one to find out their payment structure, application process and requirements for uploading your photos.

Some tips to keep in mind~

  • upload good quality pictures only (fuzzy blurry pics will not sell)
  • use descriptive keywords when listing your photos so buyers can find them easier
  • take as large a picture as you can with your camera
  • browse the photo site to see which types of photos are most popular and most downloaded to get ideas of pictures you can take

Most sites will require you to become a member before uploading your photos, which is usually free to do. istockphoto.com asks potential contributors to take a short quiz and submit sample photos as well.

Each site will also have their own payment structure and copyright guidelines, so please read all the details carefully . Most will have the option for you to work exclusively with just them–compare and decide if working with one site will benefit you more than submitting your photos to several different sites.

Other stock photo sites that can help you sell your photos online  include
