Smarthinking, which is now a part of Pearson, is hiring tutors for their online mentoring programs. These are virtual positions open to people living in the United States. You can work from home or anywhere, as long as you have a computer and high speed Internet access.
Mentors will work approximately 19 to 30 hours each week.
What Requirements Do I Need To Apply For This Job?
To work as a Tutor or Program Mentor for Pearson, a Bachelor’s Degree is required. They are looking specifically for people with degrees in one of the following fields: education, sociology, psychology, social work, or English.
They also are looking for applicants who have at least three years of customer service experience or of providing online instructional services as well. You must be passionate about student success. Strong verbal, written and telephone communication skills are a must.
What Will I Be Expected To Do As an Online Program Mentor?
You will be doing real-time, online mentoring with high school and college level students, although you may work with other individuals as well. Your primary job will be helping students who are trying to complete college prep courses in writing, reading, and math.
You will need to be supportive and encouraging as you help students stay on track. You will also be required to do daily assessments and set weekly goals for students. It will be important that you keep detailed records of meetings you have with students as you will share these with Smarthinking staff members.
Virtual Mentors communicate with their students via phone, email, and sometimes social media. You will need to be familiar with the Internet and Google Docs as well.
