The Story Behind the Business
Talk about a business being born out of love: When Marti Wymer received a phone call from her mother one day in July 2007, it was devastating news: Marti’s mom had been diagnosed with lung cancer. Marti lived in Florida, her mom lived in New Brunswick, Canada. Marti, the mother of two young children, had just returned from a trip to visit her mother, and was unable to turn around and go back. Devastated, Marti wanted to find a way to show her mother how much she loved her, and to comfort her.
“I immediately thought of Chicken soup – it’s what she (like many mothers) used to make to comfort me. And the idea for Spoonful of Comfort was born.”
Though Marti lost her mother just six weeks later, she was determined to honor her mother by pledging to help others with sick loved ones.
