Welcome to Wannabe a Work at Home Mom Elizabeth, and a special thank-you for being our very first “Mom Interview!
1. So how did you get started blogging? (or in other word, how did you get bitten by the blogging bug?)
My best friend and I had talked about doing a joint blog for a long time, but since we now live in different places, it would have been really hard. I have only been blogging since March and have learned a TREMENDOUS amount in the last several months. When I started I had absolutely no clue how to reach an audience, but now I am learning and my blog is growing! I just jumped right in! I was a French teacher before having my son and so I integrated a lot of cooking into my curriculum. I really missed having a voice and having someone listen to my voice, so I thought writing a blog would help me get my voice out there again.
2. What do you love most about blogging, and what do you like least about it?
I LOVE blogging. I have found that it is very relaxing, but what I like most is that I feel like my voice is being heard again. Here I am, this stay at home mom from Seattle, living in Iowa, and trying to find a part of me that I thought was lost. As a teacher, I felt like I was making a difference, giving something of myself, and doing something I really enjoyed. I wanted that feeling again, I wanted to be able to share with people something I am very passionate about. I wanted to help people make positive changes. When we moved to Iowa, and I started getting in with all the moms groups and such, I noticed how much processed food these families were consuming. Many of the moms were very surprised that I had time to make something from scratch, that I actually cooked, and that my son would ACTUALLY eat something like broccoli or eggplant. I wanted to teach other moms what I know. Blogging makes me feel good, it makes me feel like I am making a difference in the lives of others, that my voice is being heard somewhere, and that what I have to say matters to someone. When you become a stay at home mom, it can be very isolating, so I think finding something that is just for you is important.
3. What would you like readers to know most about your blog?
My blog is unique in that I try to provide my readers ways to interact with me, and with other readers. If you visit my blog, you will find original recipes, videos, commentaries, product reviews, ideas on how to save money at the grocery store, giveaways, ideas on cooking with your kids, and more. One very unique feature of my blog is the live web classes. I run them every so often, sometimes they are free and sometimes they cost a small fee, usually less than $10. It is a way for my readers to ask me questions, share their ideas with me, and cook with me! It’s a lot of fun and I get to meet a lot of great new people! It really has expanded my world!
4. What would you like readers to know most about you?
I love what I do. I came by this passion for feeding my family well from living in France. I lived in France for several years and my mentality about food is really very French. I cook with whole foods, from natural sources. I am not afraid of butter, or cream. My philosophy is that you can eat what you want, as long as you make it yourself from whole and natural ingredients, and consume it in moderation.
5. Your best advice to new Bloggers just starting, or thinking about starting a blog?
Pick a subject you love. If you share what you love, others will get on board.
6. Anything you wish you would have done differently as a blogger so far?
I am still learning, so I am not sure if I would do anything differently yet. I am really proud of my blog, and how much I have learned in such a short time.
7. Future aspirations for yourself and/or your blog?
I would really like to turn my blog into something great. I know that there are a lot of really wonderful blogs out there, but I think mine has something unique and I hope that I can reach people. I also hope that I can make a lot of new friends in the process.
8. And one final question Elizabeth…because we all need help with this one from time to time: How do you deal with blogger burnout (if you get it?)
I haven’t gotten it yet!
Please visit Elizabeth and her blog. She has fantastic cooking and nutrition tips, recipes, pictures and even step by step cooking videos! Plus, you can ‘meet’ her cutie-patootie “sous chef” who happens to love helping out in the kitchen!
