Work at Home: ChaCha Guides

ChaCha Guides work from home on a very flexible schedule. How much guides earn will depend on how much one works, but keep in mind that ChaCha is not intended to be a primary source of income or to replace an income from a regular job. This is more of a ‘little extra money each month” stream of income.

There are four different Guide roles: Expeditor, Generalist, Specialist, and Transcriber.

Expeditors answer questions in real time from people on the go. Expeditors send answers directly to people on their mobile phones.  The pace is quick, and the questions cover a multitude of topics.

Generalists and Specialists are very similar in what they do as guides. Both answer questions, research and provide responses to questions coming in from Expeditors. The main difference between the two types is that Generalists handle all different questions, and Specialists will deal with questions related to their specialized areas of interest/knowledge. As a Specialist, you will sign up for specific ChaCha Categories, so that you are first in line to receive incoming Questions that match your respective expertise

As a Transcriber, you listen to the voice questions that customers call into 1-800-2ChaCha and convert them to text questions.

There are no scheduled commitments of time, though logging in when demand is high relative to the Guide supply can lead to higher point levels. There is no minimum number of hours required per week. But the more time you put in, the more you can earn.

You will be working for ChaCha as an independent contractor, not as an employee. Guides must fill out a standard W-9 form as part of the Registration process and prior to beginning any work.

How Much Do Guides Make:

Guides earn a set amount per task completed. Expeditors earn $0.02 cents per completed task and Transcribers $0.03 per completed task. Generalists & Specialists earn between $0.10 and $0.20 per completed task, based on the Category of the question.

There is also a point system where points increase in value as the rate of all completed tasks by all guides increase each month.

How to become a Paid ChaCha Guide:

You will first complete registration on the site, where you to give some information about yourself, submit a W-9 form, and pass a compatibility assessment for the specific Guide Role you choose.

Once the right guide role has been determined for you, you will receive a congratulatory email and be directed to orientation and training. After you’ve had a chance to digest the training, you will take a “Role Readiness Test” that confirms you’re ready to handle live customer questions.

Completing the Readiness Test will activate you as a paid ChaCha Guide.
